Job Purpose

Reporting into the Knowledge Manager, the role is responsible for the management, development and support of the Knowledge Hub community. The Knowledge Hub exists primarily for policing and its public and private sector partners, to help them share information, discuss ideas and opportunities and encourage greater collaboration.

The Digital Community Officer will contribute to the delivery of assigned projects and programmes that enhance the Knowledge Hub, and will work to maintain a positive reputation for the Knowledge Hub with its community, customers, partners and stakeholders.

The Digital Community Officer will work as part of a team, contributing towards a culture of flexible and collaborative team working to ensure that Knowledge Hub meets its objectives and responds effectively to new or changing requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  1. Provide ongoing support to all online communities deployed across Knowledge Hub.
  2. Build and maintain effective relationships with key users, customers, external partners and stakeholders to ensure all user issues are dealt with in an appropriate manner and all relevant systems and processes sufficiently support the delivery of Knowledge Hub objectives.
  3. Support the facilitators of various Groups and Networks on the Knowledge Hub to establish and improve their skills level in directly supporting their own online communities, by delivering online community training programmes and individual coaching to meet their needs.
  4. Work closely with Police ICT Company colleagues internally to help drive proactive two-way engagement between target communities and the Company, ensuring online community building and knowledge management initiatives are widely adopted and that the Company is able to use the Knowledge Hub effectively and productively.
  5. Liaise with the Knowledge Hub developers to report and manage issues and to drive improvements aimed at delivering against users’ requirements, keeping the site relevant, innovative, up to date and deemed by its users to be an essential tool.
  6. Provide ad hoc digital channel support to the Company’s broader communications strategy, specifically including commercial initiatives.

Skills & Experience

Communications & Information Management

  • Excellent knowledge of ICT and web technologies, standards and trends, the ability to learn new software/systems quickly and the capacity to identify opportunities to deliver improved online services
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to connect with and present to all levels
  • Ability to establish honest, constructive, productive relationships
  • Knowledge/experience of public sector information security principles beneficial
  • Operational experience managing online systems, including effective use of statistical reporting/analysis tools

Stakeholder focus

  • Experience of stakeholder management within a large and complex environment and a record of building and maintaining solid relationships with clients at all levels of organisations
  • Ability to understand the stakeholder community and their needs and concerns
  • Ability to deliver training programmes and initiatives and to facilitate workshops and present in clear and uncomplicated manner to groups up to Senior Manager level

Personal skills

  • Excellent organisational skills and confidence in managing own time and workload under pressure to tight deadlines and from competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with the flexibility to handle a diverse range of responsibilities
  • Flexible approach to work, with a keenness to adapt to meet changing work requirements
  • Experience of project management within a web environment would be useful
  • An understanding of public sector, and specifically policing or similarly complex political environment an advantage
