Appointment of Duncan Swan as COO of British APCO

12th Oct 2021

The President of British APCO, John Anthony, today announced the appointment of Duncan Swan as the association’s new Chief Operating Officer.  Duncan will take up this part-time role at the beginning of March 2022 upon his retirement from IT Advisory firm, Mason Advisory, where he was one of the founding partners in 2014.  He has a long association with British APCO reaching back to 1998 when he became an active member and joined the Commercial Advisory Group (CAG).  Duncan stepped up to chair the CAG from May 2000 through until April 2004 – during which time he brought a new sense of purpose to the role of commercial members in the Association; in 2005 he was awarded the inaugural Gareth Wilkinson Memorial Award “in recognition and appreciation of outstanding leadership and contribution to the development of BAPCO and personal commitment to the ideals and purpose of the Association”; and in March 2017 he was presented with the highest British APCO award of Life Membership.  Duncan has worked across the public safety community – in the UK and Ireland as well as further afield – for most of his career and is recognised as someone able to match technology know-how with commercial and business sense.

John Anthony, President of British APCO said "myself and my fellow Directors are delighted to appoint Duncan as British APCO's Chief Operating Officer. With his wealth of experience in the sector and his long involvement with BAPCO we consider that the association is very fortunate to have been able to secure his services and we believe that this heralds a bright future for us. I am sure that all of our members will support Duncan in his new role and that you will take the opportunity to meet with him and share your views of the association with him when he takes up the role in March 2022."

Duncan commented “I am convinced that BAPCO has a healthy future ahead – I want to ensure that we remain relevant to all of our members.  The Association must continue to innovate, find new ways to help improve emergency services and public safety communications and information technology for everybody’s benefit, and above all continue to be the leading UK based Association for all professionals using or developing Public Safety technology.  I am really looking forward to taking up this new challenge.”
