Now in its fourth year, British APCO is proud to announce that nominations are now open for the 2026 Ian Thompson Bursary - with a closing date of 2nd February 2026.
The award is open to applicants of all ages in their early years - ideally up to five years - of working or studying in the field of critical communications in public safety within the UK and Ireland; they could have a role in a user organisation, employed by a supplier or in full time studies. They will be supported by previous Bursary winners who will share their experiences to date and answer your questions.
This year’s Bursary was launched at the British APCO Autumn event by previous recipients Georgie Green from the Ambulance Radio Programme and Hayley Jepson from the Emergency Services Mobile Communication Programme.

If you know of someone who fits the bill to win the bursary then please do give them every encouragement to submit their nomination. Ian Thompson was a great advocate for education and developing new talent to the public safety industry, and this Bursary provides a fitting legacy to our former Chief Executive.
